Hi there!

My name is Heang and nice to meet you.

About Me

Given my BA in Accounting, I always thought my dream was to be an auditor in a big audit firm like KPMG, sipping my morning Cappuccino and starting my day with financial statements and numbers. I loved my job, and I woke up every day basically thinking about how I could do it better. Things changed when I enrolled in a Python Bootcamp. At first, I thought I would do it as an amateur, but I could not get enough of it. Since then, computer science is like magic to me, and at the end of the day, I made up my mind to pursue my master’s degree in computer science here in Australia as an international student.

Like other junior software developers, I am passionate in coding. I usually lock myself in the room and code all day. Coding can be stressful and exhausted sometimes because I do not know why it does not compile no matter what I do, but it gives an amazing and wonderful feeling each time I can solve my coding problems. I have completed many projects during my study at Griffith as shown in the “Project” page of this website; it includes Data Analysis Software, PacMan Game, Swift Applications, and React Projects.

Soon I will graduate with my master’s degree in computer science; to be industry-ready with generic graduate capabilities, I need the opportunity to work in a genuine business setting which enhances my soft skills and advances my theoretical knowledge so that I can become a competent software developer in the future; this is when Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is brought into play. My work placement was generously offered by Securestack company. The experiences that I gained from the work placement have helped me manage my career aspirations and decisions as well as increased my awareness of industry challenges. Being able to work under the supervision of senior software developers at Securestack company, I have learnt a lot about the importance of teamwork, good communication, lifelong learning, and other generic skills. Personally, I think WIL was a fun way to learn because it not only gave a memorable working experience, it also impacts how I think about my future career, and who I want to be after graduating.
